Sometimes the world comes at me so loudly that I almost forget there is anything else.
It was too hot to go outside today, so I picked up my iPad “just for five minutes.” And before I knew it, I was knee-deep in wars, corruptions, sick leaders, and three new global crises I didn’t even know existed twenty minutes ago.
Social media can feel like a waiter who never hands you a menu, but simply drops a steaming plate on your table.
“Today’s special,” he says. “Deep-fried fear with a generous side of outrage.”
And yet, right in the middle of all that noise, a different image can appear.
Not more shouting, but something ancient and simple…..Like the First Nations peoples of Australia and their deep relationship with the land, community, and silence.
While we shouldn’t romanticize them as if they all lived the exact same story, there is a reason their ancient way of life calls to us. Perhaps it reminds us of something we have forgotten.
One beautiful principle from traditional Indigenous cultures is that games are not primarily about defeating one another, but about developing skills, cooperation, and strengthening the community.
If we think about it : What is the joy of winning if my brother is crying because he lost?”
That simple question can change everything. It exposes how bizarre it is that we so often build our happiness upon someone else’s disappointment.
Our modern world makes almost everything a competition: . Who is smarter? Who is richer? Who is more spiritual? Who is more beautiful? Who is………
ACIM reminds us that our brother is not separate from us.
If I need you to lose so that I can feel successful, then I have already accepted a world where separation is real. But if we share the same Source, success is no longer about standing above someone else. Success simply becomes remembering together.
Another tradition that has always fascinated me is the idea of naming people according to their natural gift.
Imagine introducing yourself by what you bring to the tribe, a special talent:
Listener…..Fire Keeper…Hugger….Peacemaker….Laughter….Clarity….and a special one: “She-Who-Always-Finds-everything” (Honestly, this last one is pure gold in any housekeeping).
We often hear stories about telepathy in ancient cultures. But maybe we all experience a very ordinary form of it.
You walk into a room and instantly sense tension.
You think of a friend, and moments later they call.
Perhaps that isn’t supernatural magic at all. Perhaps it is simply what connected minds naturally do before our own noisy thoughts drown them out.
Maybe connection is far more ordinary than we imagine. And maybe that is today’s real invitation.
We don’t need another heavy article about everything that is wrong with the world. Today’s question is much simpler:
What happens when life is no longer a competition?
What happens when my brother is no longer my rival, but my mirror?
What happens when talent is no longer a reason to feel special, but an opportunity to serve?
Maybe the world doesn’t first have to become peaceful before we can experience peace. Maybe it begins much closer than that.
One moment when we don’t click on a terrifying headline.
One moment when we refuse to feed the fear.
One moment when we step outside into the sweltering heat, just to greet the brave little plant on the balcony that somehow survives another scorching summer day.
One moment when we quietly say:
“Today, I don’t need to win. Today, I simply don’t want anyone to lose.”
And perhaps, in a world that constantly teaches separation, that right there is a very beautiful, quiet revolution.
With love and light,
G.
