During the pandemic, here in Italy, we were not even allowed to go for a walk outside. I’m not someone who normally breaks the rules, but this felt like too much for me.
So I began taking walks in the evening, under the cover of darkness. Gradually, those walks became less like walks and more like meditations.
Then, one evening, something completely unexpected happened.
As I was walking, I suddenly saw an inner image. In my mind, I was standing with my arms raised. Beside me stood a man. Yet he was not beside me at all. He wasn’t separate from me. We were one.
And the only words that arose were:
“Man……woman…..I Am.”
For a few moments, an overwhelming sense of peace and wholeness washed over me. It felt as if every boundary had dissolved. There was no longing, no searching, no sense of being incomplete. There was only a feeling of coming home to something that had never really been lost.
Afterwards, I began to wonder about the word “alone.”
What if I have misunderstood it all my live?
I think when we hear the word “alone” we all immediately think of loneliness, abandonment, separation. But what if, hidden inside the sound of the word, is another invitation?
All….One ! (NL: al…een / German: all…ein
)
Of course, it isn’t the literal origin of the word. But sometimes a playful insight reveals a deeper truth than etymology ever could.
Perhaps loneliness is not the absence of another person. Perhaps it is simply the moment we have believed the ego’s story that we exist as separate selves. The feeling is real enough, but the story behind it is not.
The ego says….: “You are on your own.”
Love smiles and replies, “You have never left Me.”
From that shift, everything begins to look different.
When someone irritates us, rejects us, misunderstands us, or simply doesn’t “click,” we no longer have to conclude that something is wrong with them or with us. It is just an opportunity to forgive…..to see things differently.
So maybe that is what my meditation was trying to show me.
Not that a man and a woman became one…but that they had never truly been two…..
With love and light,
G.
