If someone calls me “an idiot” and I keep thinking about it for three days, then perhaps I really am an idiot.
People will always have opinions about us. Some will love us, some will misunderstand us, some will judge us, and occasionally someone will say something deliberately unkind.
We cannot control all of that. But we can begin to recognize that another person’s opinion does not have the power to define what we are unless we hand that power over.
Ask yourself : Why does this particular word have so much power over me? What am I afraid might be true?
And then we can remember something much deeper than any human judgment.
I am not what you think I am.
I am not even what I sometimes think I am.
I am as God created me.
From that place, there is no need to fight back or prove anything. We can simply allow another person to have their opinion without turning it into our identity. Their words belong to their mind. What we choose to believe about ourselves belongs to ours.
Someone may call me an idiot.
I can smile inwardly and think: Interesting opinion.
And continue walking as the Son of God.
