Have you ever said something in anger, only to feel the tension stay with you long after the words were gone? Itâs as if what you sent out came right back and settled in your own heart.
Thatâs exactly the quiet wisdom behind todayâs lesson 126 from A Course in Miracles: âAll that I give is given to myself.â
At first, this may seem strange, especially in a world that teaches the opposite. The ego tells us weâre separate from one another. It says, âWhat I do to you has nothing to do with me.â And so, giving is often seen as losing, and forgiving becomes a strange favor we grant someone who may not even deserve it.
But the Course gently invites us to see things differently.
True forgiveness isnât about rising above others or being the âbigger person.â Itâs not charity. Itâs clarity. Itâs the deep, healing recognition that there is no real separation. What I give to you, peace, patience, love, I reinforce in myself. Because you and I are not two.
The ego wants you to believe that someone can sin, and you can judge them for it, while still keeping your own peace untouched. But thatâs not how it works. Judging someone creates tension, and that tension lives in your own mind. Forgiveness, on the other hand, sets you free.
So what if forgiveness isnât really about the other person at all? What if itâs the way Home?âŚâŚ..
Today, the Course reminds us that real givingâŚreal forgivingâŚis healing to the one who gives. Why? Because giving is receiving. In truth, thereâs no difference. A gift of love cannot be given without also being received.
This is why Jesus (and the Holy Spirit, if youâre listening) keeps inviting us to practiceâŚnot to perfect anything, but to remember whatâs already true.
For example: Youâre at the post office. Itâs one of those slow afternoons. The line is long, and the person at the counter is asking question after question. Someone behind you sighs loudly. Another starts muttering about âpeople who donât prepare.â You feel a wave of impatience rise in your chest. The ego nudges: âThis is ridiculous. People should be more efficient!â
But then⌠a quiet pause.
You remember the lesson: Everything I give, I give to myself.
So you take a breath. Instead of feeding the frustration, you send a silent blessing to the person at the counter. You soften your shoulders. You smile gently at the person behind you.
Nothing outwardly changes, yet everything does. The moment is lighter. You feel more peaceful. The love you chose not only calmed the tension, but returned straight to you.
Thatâs how forgiveness works.
Itâs not about the other person being right or wrong.
Itâs about choosing peace, because itâs your peace.
So today, if life offers you one of these tiny classroom moments, take it. Let it remind you:
Whatever I give in thought, word, or energyâŚ.I give to myself. (Yeah
)
Give peace. Give understanding.
And donât be surprised when it blossoms gently in your own heart.
Thatâs how we heal.
Thatâs how we come Home.
With love and light,
G.
