I was sitting on my couch with a cup of coffee, wrapped in a pink blanket. I was pondering life, my thoughts, my feelings, and then this question poped into my mind: “How do I connect with my higher self?” Maybe it sounds a bit mystical, but really, it’s a very practical question. After all, who wouldn’t want a little guidance from a wiser, calmer version of themselves?

Let’s explore this together—without overcomplicating things. Life is meant to be light and full of love, isn’t it?

What Is Your Higher Self?

Your higher self is often described as a wiser, more loving, and more conscious version of you. It’s that part of you that isn’t caught up in fears, ego, or the chaos of daily life. You might think of it as a guide, a friend, or a beam of light helping you navigate this sometimes confusing existence.

But here’s an interesting twist: according to A Course in Miracles, even your higher self is still part of the illusion of separation. Surprised? Yes, it’s still part of the dream. A beautiful dream, sure, but still a step on the way to something far greater: the remembrance that you are already whole and one with God. And when it comes to waking up to that truth, there’s no better guide than the Holy Spirit (who seems to be your Higher Self but that is not completely true).

Perhaps you ask: Where is my Higher Self?

Good news: your higher self isn’t “somewhere else.” It’s not hanging out in another dimension while you sit here on your couch, struggling with your thoughts. Your higher self is within you, like a cheerful little bird singing in the background, sometimes overshadowed by the noisy quacking of your ego.

It may feel like it’s far away, but that’s only because we’re so used to listening to the ego. You know, that little voice that always has something critical to say: “You’re not doing it right,” or “Why aren’t you enlightened yet?” Meanwhile, your higher self is quietly saying: “Relax, dear one, you’re exactly where you need to be.”

How Do You Connect?

Here’s another good news: you don’t need to go anywhere or do anything complicated. Your higher self is closer than your breath. Here are some practical steps to experience that connection:

1. Ask the Holy Spirit for Help

The Holy Spirit is your ultimate bridge to God, and it knows both your “small self” (sitting on the couch) and your higher self. Start simply by asking:

“Holy Spirit, help me experience the connection with my higher self and remember the truth of love.”

This opens the door. The rest is about allowing and trusting.

2. Silence Is Golden

Your higher self doesn’t communicate with loud slogans or dramatic announcements. It speaks in silence. Take a few minutes each day to sit quietly and imagine yourself bathed in light. Don’t ask for anything, don’t expect anything—just wait. That quiet sense of peace that begins to bubble up? That’s your higher self saying hello.

3. Go Beyond the Body

It may feel like you’re trapped in your body, but that’s part of the illusion. Ask yourself: “What if I’m more than what I see in the mirror?” This simple question opens the door to a greater awareness of who you are.

4. Laugh at the Ego

The ego will undoubtedly pipe up with something like: “Higher self? Please, you haven’t even done the dishes!” Laugh at it. Thank it for its input and gently return to your loving intention.

Connecting with your higher self isn’t an end goal. It’s a step, a tool to help you remember that you are not separate from God. Your higher self reminds you that you are more than fear and limitation. It helps you align with love, peace, and truth.

As A Course in Miracles teaches us:

“Nothing real can be threatened. Nothing unreal exists. Herein lies the peace of God.”

So think of your higher self as a loving companion, but trust the Holy Spirit as your ultimate guide. You are already connected to your higher self, and through that connection, you’ll gradually release all illusions of separation. The best part is: you don’t have to force anything. Love does the work for you.

So, make yourself comfortable, smile at the illusion of life, and remind yourself: you are already whole.

With love and light,

G.
