Enthusiasm: The Secret Ingredient to Life (Even on a Monday!)

Imagine this: your alarm goes off on Monday morning. For many, this is the universal signal to groan, hit snooze, and wish that time would magically fast-forward to Friday. But wait a minute… what if we did things differently? What if we said:

“Yay! A new day!”

Okay, let’s be honest—your first reaction is probably: “Come on, that sounds way too exaggerated.” But what if we gave it a chance? What if today, we consciously chose to be enthusiastic, no matter what?

The Power of Enthusiasm

Enthusiasm is often seen as something that comes and goes, depending on how fun our day turns out to be. But what if it’s the other way around? What if enthusiasm isn’t dependent on circumstances, but actually creates them?

Take grocery shopping, for example. Most people see it as a necessary evil. But what if you viewed it as an opportunity to discover new things? Maybe you stumble upon an exciting new product. Maybe you strike up a conversation with a stranger. Maybe your positive energy rubs off on the cashier, and they go on to brighten someone else’s day.

One small shift in attitude can set off a ripple effect.

Why Enthusiasm Isn’t Nonsense (But Pure Wisdom)

According to A Course in Miracles, our thoughts determine how we experience the world. If we think Monday is going to be tough, then it will be. But if we think, “Today will be full of miracles,” we open ourselves up to actually seeing them.

Enthusiasm isn’t about pretending everything is perfect. It’s simply a conscious choice to be open to the good in any situation.

“But what if absolutely nothing exciting happens today?”

Then you still have one certainty: your breath, your presence, and the ability to choose again—right now.

Want to add a dose of enthusiasm to your day? Try these: Play the ‘Yay!’ game

Every time you ‘have to’ do something, say “Yay!” before you begin. Yay, I have to go to that boring meeting! At first, your brain will think, “This is ridiculous,” but over time, it becomes a funny habit that actually shifts your mood.

Do something unexpected

Take a different route to work, eat something you normally wouldn’t, or start your day with music instead of the news. Enthusiasm grows when you make space for new experiences.

See every day as a chance to wake up

Not just in the spiritual sense (although, why not?), but simply to wake up to the moment. How many little miracles could you notice today if you truly paid attention?

And if you’re reading this thinking, “Yeah, yeah, nice words, but that’s not how the real world works,”—then I challenge you. Try it for a day. Just as an experiment. See what happens.

Because who knows… maybe today is the day you wake up. Or at the very least, a day where you smile a little more. And that, in itself, is a miracle.

Yay, we’re here again!

With light and love,

G.
