A Course in Miracles doesnāt use the word traumaā¦not even once.
And yet, it quietly addresses it in many lessons.
It speaks to the part of the mind that still trembles.
The part that flinches when someone walks in.
The part that says: āIām broken, and Iām not sure Iāll ever be whole again.ā
And if thatās youā¦reading this nowā¦this article is written with tenderness. Not as advice. Not as a ā10 steps to healing.ā But as a gentle whisper:
āYou are not alone. And there is another way.ā
Letās be honest, some things that happen in this world are unspeakably cruel. Iām not here to pretend otherwise.
Iām not here to tell a woman who was assaulted at age 12:
āDonāt worry, it never really happened.ā
Thatās not love. Thatās spiritual bypass.
And Iām not here to tell a war veteran who wakes up screaming:
āYouāre just dreaming.ā
Thatās not healing. Thatās dismissal.
The Course doesnāt ignore trauma. It invites us..gently..to ask:
āAm I willing to see myself beyond what happened?ā
Not today. Not tomorrow. But someday. With the Holy Spirit. In your own time.
Letās clear this up right away: If youāve had trauma, and it still hurtsā¦
ā¦you are not doing it wrong. You are not spiritually failing. You are not āless awakened.ā You are a human being having a very raw experience in a very confusing dream.
But hereās what says workbook lesson 94 : āI am as God created me. I am His Son eternallyā Lesson 93: Light and joy and peace abide in me.ā
So, you are not as the trauma shaped you. Not as the world labeled you.
Not as the ego distorted you. You are the Son of God.
What is the role of the Holy Spirit?
The Holy Spirit doesnāt rush. He doesnāt diagnose. He never says: āWhy arenāt you healed yet?ā
He waitsā¦.He whispersā¦.He walks into that dark, dusty basement of your heart and says:
āItās okay. You donāt have to show Me anything.
Just let Me sit with you a while.ā
This is not therapy. This is true healing. Not fixing the story.
But gently remembering:
āThis story is not who I am.ā

The ego is like an airline that never loses your baggage.
It keeps delivering it to every destination, shouting:
āLook what happened to you! This is why you are the way you are!ā
But the Holy Spirit just smiles, hands you the remote, and says:
āYou can eject that tape now. Letās sit together and watch it dissolve.ā
No pressure. No shame.
So Invite Him inā¦ask Him to stay with you.

I personally havenāt experienced extreme trauma. No war. No abuse. No violations of the body or soul. And before I started writing, I wondered:
āAm I allowed to speak about healing if I havenāt felt that depth of pain?ā
But then I realized: I donāt need to have walked through fire
to offer someone a cup of water.
Sometimes love is not in the knowing. Itās in the listening. The not turning away. The staying close.
This article is not a solution. Itās only meant to be a hand. An open door.
A tiny lantern saying: āThere is more to you than your trauma.
And you are not forgotten.ā
For sure not by God/Loveā¦.and not by those of us who are still learning to see you truly.
ACIM teaches usā¦.we are not our pain. We are the ones who witnesses it.
And the witness is always free.
With love and light,
G.
