The Promise Has Already Been Kept (Lesson 279)

Sometimes it feels as if the world has gone mad.

You turn on the news, and it seems like Love has left the building.

War here, famine there, loud voices shouting about who is right and who should be blamed.

And if you are like me, you sometimes whisper, “Where is God in all this?”

Today’s lesson gives the answer gently, like a warm hand on a trembling heart:

“The freedom of creation promises mine.”

It doesn’t say “will promise” or “might promise someday.”

It says now.

Freedom is already yours, even while the dream still appears to show chaos.

Because only in dreams do we seem imprisoned, waiting for salvation to arrive “one day.”

In truth, that day has already dawned.

The ego loves future promises….it feeds on waiting.

But the Spirit whispers: “Why wait for what has already been given?”

Every time we choose to believe the world is doomed, we write another sad chapter in a story that isn’t real.

And every time we remember that Love cannot leave Its creation, we erase a line of fear and replace it with light.

We look at war and feel powerless, but the Course reminds us: if I see war, it must be my own unhealed war that I am looking at.

When I see hunger, I see my own sense of lack made visible.

When I fear that freedom will be taken away by politics or power, I am watching the reflection of my own forgotten power.

This is not about guilt, but about awakening.

The world is the movie screen, and my Mind is the projector.

Each scene I judge as tragic is asking for my forgiveness…not the world’s forgiveness, but my own, for believing in fear.

And as I choose again, the images begin to soften, because the projector has been healed.

I understand how hard it is not to cry when you see innocent faces suffer,

how confusing it is when people around you repeat falsehoods as if they were facts.

Our hearts ache not because Love has disappeared,

but because we momentarily forgot that Love never could.

The Course invites us to look differently, not to look away.

To see the dream for what it is…a passing mist,

and to remember the sun is still shining behind it.

So today, let’s not pretend that nothing happens,

but let’s laugh softly at the idea that anything real could be threatened.

Let’s accept the promise that has already been fulfilled.

Let’s stop waiting for peace to come and let it come through us.

When we do, the world may still appear noisy and divided,

but our seeing will be quiet and whole.

And from that quiet place, miracles ripple outward,

not to fix the dream, but to awaken the dreamer.

After all, what are chains to one who has already been set free?

With love and light,

G.
