Let’s admit it with a smile: We humans love to point fingers.

We blame the government.

We blame the referee.

We blame the teacher.

We blame our boss, our parents, our partners.

And when we’ve run out of people to blame, we blame… ourselves.

But what if all of this is hiding one single thing?

“Guilt remains the only thing that hides the Father.” (T-13.IX.1:1)

That’s how A Course in Miracles puts it.

Blame isn’t just a social habit. It’s a defense against Love.

Why? Because the ego is built on guilt. And guilt always condemns.

An example: The football referee

Lately a new AI referee has been introduced to football/soccer. It’s flawless.

No more bad calls. No more unjust penalties.

Great news, right?

Not for the fans….they don’t like it, they prefer a human referee. In some way

they’re disappointed, because, perhaps, now… there’s no one to blame.

And yelling at the referee is half the fun!

This is the ego in action. It doesn’t actually want fairness.

It wants a target, someone to absorb the guilt we don’t want to face.

Blaming others protects the idea that I’m okay, it’s them.

But the Course tells us:

“The guilty always condemn, and having done so they will still condemn, linking the future to the past as is the ego’s law.” (T-13.IX.1:2)

So long as we obey this law, we stay in darkness.

Even ACIM students aren’t immune.

You read: “Illness is a wrong-minded choice.”

So when you get sick, you think:

“I must not be doing the lessons well.”

“God is withholding the miracle because I’m failing spiritually.”

But that, too, is blame…just reversed.

It’s the same old guilt, dressed in spiritual clothing.

But the Course is clear:

“Release from guilt is the ego’s whole undoing.” (T-13.IX.2:1)

You don’t have to earn your way back to God.

You don’t have to “deserve” a miracle.

You simply have to accept your guiltlessness as already given.

Why do we have to lift ‘The Cloud of guilt’? Because It blinds us, it hides the light within us. And worst of all, guilt projects itself outward, darkening the world we see.

The ego says:

“Don’t look inside. It’s all black and broken in there.”

But the Holy Spirit says:

“Look. You’ll find the light your Father placed in you.” (T-13.IX.8:13)

Stop blaming…whether others or yourself…because it is a form of belief in punishment.

Remember: “Sin and condemnation are the same, and the belief in one is faith in the other, calling for punishment instead of love.” (T-13.IX.5:5)

Here’s the alternative:

-Notice when you feel the urge to blame.

-Pause, and ask: “What part of me feels guilty right now?”

-Remember: Guilt is not real.

-Release your brother, and yourself, by choosing forgiveness.

Every time you choose to see someone as guiltless, you affirm your own innocence.

“Whatever you hold dear you think is yours. The power of your valuing will make it so.” (T-13.IX.3:4–5)

Whatever you treasure… will be returned to you, so let’s make guiltlessness our new treasure.

Not just a concept, but a living practice.

Let’s drop the need for blame, and walk gently toward the light within,

where nothing has ever gone wrong, and nothing ever could.

Not even that missed penalty.

With love and light,

G.
