How does this fit within ACIM?
This is one of those topics where two worlds meet:
The world of forms, where people speak of past lives, karmic roles, spiritual lineages, and historical incarnations.
And the world of Awareness, where time dissolves, the ego dissolves, and the idea of “reincarnation” has no literal meaning.
A Course in Miracles speaks from the second world.
But the beauty is this:
both viewpoints can be honored without contradiction when we understand the level they belong to.
Let’s take a look:
In the dream, reincarnation makes sense.
Within the dream of the world, whole mythologies, histories, and identities can arise.
The dream is enormously spacious….spacious enough to contain:
– the selection of the Dalai Lama
– children who remember “a previous life”
– people who name towns they’ve never visited
– Matías De Stefano recalling Atlantis
– mystics describing time cycles, cosmic eras, and ancient civilizations
Within the dream, this is all perfectly possible, because the dream is not small.
It contains planets, galaxies, entire civilizations, so why should it not also contain symbolic timelines of “previous incarnations”?
ACIM acknowledges this indirectly when it says:
“The mind makes its own world.”
The dream is flexible, creative, symbolic and boundless.
It can produce any storyline the mind believes.
But from Awareness, the level ACIM actually speaks from, reincarnation is impossible.
This is where the Course is radical.
According to ACIM: There is no past. There is no future There is no linear time. There is no individual soul that travels from body to body.
Not because people lie or imagine things, but because time itself is part of the dream.
There is only one Mind, and that Mind dreams “lifetimes,”
but the lifetimes do not actually happen in reality.
They are dream-scenes appearing in the mind of the sleeping Son of God.
Just as a night-dream can contain centuries of events in ten minutes,
the cosmic dream can contain thousands of “incarnations” in a timeless instant.
So how can someone remember a past life?
Here is a possible explanation:
They are remembering a part of the dream-field, not a personal, literal past.
ACIM teaches that minds are joined:
“There is no place where the Son is separate.”
If all minds are one, then:
anyone can touch deep layers of the collective dream,
anyone can tune into symbols stored in the mind-field,
anyone can perceive scenes that did not “belong” to their present
character,
anyone can glimpse memories that are not “theirs,” because nothing is personal.
The mind of a child, mystic, lama or intuitive person may simply have:
a thinner veil
a cleaner window
more transparency
fewer defenses
a deeper intuitive access to the field
This allows them to sense dream-content that normally stays unconscious.
So the Dalai Lama recognizing objects from a previous lama
or Matías describing life in Atlantis……is not proof of reincarnation…
but proof that the dream-field is shared.
Why does it feel so believable, so real?
Because the dream can be perfectly coherent.
ACIM says the world was made as an attack on God
meaning: a very convincing illusion.
The dream is immersive. So immersive that whole civilizations, histories, timelines and identities can appear to be real.
Just as:
your night-dream feels real while you’re in it
a NDE feels real although it’s symbolic
a memory of “Atlantis” feels real although it’s dream-content
a recognition of a previous Dalai Lama feels real although it’s symbolic
The coherence of the dream does not prove its reality.
It only proves the power of the Mind.
How do we explain this without invalidating anyone?
With this simple ACIM truth:
Every experience is valuable inside the dream.
But no experience defines what you truly are.
This perspective honors everyone:
the child who remembers a past family
the practicing Buddhist who recognizes the tulku
the modern mystic who recalls ancient civilizations
the person who feels they lived before
and the ACIM student who sees through the dream
No need to argue “true” or “false.”
Just recognize the level:
Dream experiences are meaningful inside the dream.
But they do not define the reality of Awareness.
So what is the truth beneath all reincarnation stories?
The truth is simple and luminous:
There is only one Life.
The Life in God.
Everything else is dream-content.
From the ACIM perspective, you can say:
Yes, you can remember scenes.
Yes, you can sense other time-lines.
Yes, you can feel ancient knowledge.
But…
No, Awareness is not moving through those scenes.
The scenes are moving inside Awareness.
The window does not travel across lifetimes.
The Light simply shines through different shapes of glass.
Reincarnation is not Awareness moving from body to body.
Reincarnation is the dream-field showing you different symbols,
different windows, different stories.
When someone says : “I remember all my past incarnations,”
ACIM would answer:
“You are remembering dream-symbols in the one Mind.
But the Light that sees them has never incarnated at all.”
Why is this so liberating?
Because suddenly you realize:
You do not have a karmic burden.
You do not have to finish a cosmic task list.
You do not have to “earn” spiritual progress.
You are not trapped in cycles of rebirth.
You do not have to fear the future. ![]()

Because:
The fullness of the dream is temporary. The emptiness of Awareness is eternal. And You are That.
