“ Look at me being fabulous”

Arrogance in the Light of A Course in Miracles

On a sparkling catwalk, surrounded by flashing lights and an admiring crowd, a parrot struts with regal flair. But not just any parrot: this one is draped in a dazzling gown made of pink and purple feathers, with crystal embellishments on the shoulders – straight from the Royal House of Birds. Her gaze? Unshakable. She knows all eyes are on her. And she thinks that’s exactly as it should be.

We smile, lovingly. Because how often does our ego take that same little walk? Longing for admiration, validation, and most of all: the sense of being “better than the others.”

What the Course says about arrogance

In A Course in Miracles, arrogance isn’t just loud or showy behavior. It’s subtler. Arrogance is the belief that you made yourself, that you know what’s best, and that you stand apart from your Source.

The Course puts it simply:

“Arrogance is the belief that you have made yourself.”

In other words: the idea that we are a body, a separate self, disconnected from God. According to the Course, this is the root of all suffering.

True humility is knowing who you are.

Humility isn’t about shrinking. It’s about remembering. Real humility is the deep knowing that you are part of something greater. That you don’t have to prove yourself, because you are already whole.

So arrogance becomes a kind of cosmic joke, a feathery costume covering up your light.

And if you catch yourself in parrot-mode…

Smile gently. Say:

“Ah… there I go again on my inner runway.”

Then invite the Holy Spirit to look with you. Not to correct or scold, but to gently remind you: this isn’t who you really are. And then… peace returns.

This parrot is fabulous. And also a little ridiculous. Just like the ego. But Love looks on with kind eyes. And says:

“What you thought you were, you never were. And what you truly are waits patiently for your return.”

No catwalk needed.

Just wings… and Home.

With love and light,

G.
