A World of Power and the Return to Oneness

Imagine this: you’re standing at a busy city intersection, cars honking, people rushing from one place to another, and it seems like everyone is chasing after something bigger, better, more powerful. It’s a world where “power” is seen as the ultimate goal. “The more I have, the more I can do!” seems to be the motto. But hold on a second, let’s pause here. Where are we actually running to? What are we trying to achieve in this frantic race for power and control?

According to A Course in Miracles (ACIM), we have placed ourselves in this dream world, where we believe that power will bring us happiness. We think that if we just have enough—money, status, influence—then we’ll finally find that peace and joy we’ve been longing for. But in this quest, we forget one important detail: nothing real can be threatened, and nothing unreal exists. So if power in this world of illusions is our goal, isn’t that like trying to build a castle in the air? A castle that never really stands firm on the ground?

Let’s look at this. Imagine the world as a giant playground, and instead of playing together, we’re all busy protecting our sandcastles. We shout, “This is my sand, stay away!” But the funny thing is, if we just stop and look at each other, we’d see that we’re all just playing in the same sand, sand that doesn’t really belong to anyone. What if, instead of fighting over who has the most sand, we decided to play together? Maybe then we’d discover that the real joy isn’t in how much sand we have, but in the fun of building together.

This brings us to the idea of solidarity. Instead of striving for power, what if we focused on love, on connecting with each other? What if we decided to look beyond the illusions and see that we actually all share the same source? That the only real power lies in recognizing our oneness? A Course in Miracles teaches us that the way back to oneness begins with forgiveness—letting go of the illusions and choosing love over fear.

Forgiveness, in the spirit of the Course, is actually a very liberating concept. It’s not “forgive because you have to,” but rather “forgive because you realize there’s nothing to forgive.” It sounds paradoxical, but within that paradox lies a deep truth: everything we thought separated us doesn’t really exist. It was a mistake in our thinking, a glitch in the dream. And as we all know, in a dream, everything can change the moment you wake up.

So let’s look back at the world of power and ask ourselves: Do I really want to be the king of my sandcastle, or would I rather enjoy the game with everyone in the playground? The choice is ours. And as the Course says, in every situation there is an opportunity to choose love, to let go of the illusions of power, and return to the joyful oneness of the All.

Today, let’s choose the game of love, solidarity, and the understanding that we are all part of that one beautiful, unbreakable Oneness.

With love and light.
