You know that feeling when you walk into a room and have no idea why youāre there? Or when you park your car and later wander around like a lost soul thinking: āWhere did I leave that thing?āWell, thatās pretty much how we go through lifeāwe came here for something, but we completely forgot what it was.
Luckily, todayās ACIM lesson is like a mental Post-it note: āLet me not forget my function.ā And that function is not to make the perfect cappuccino, win arguments, or become a world champion at worrying. Nopeāour function is forgiveness.
Forgiveness⦠again? Yes, but not what you think.
Before you sigh, āOh no, not this forgiveness stuff again,ā letās clear something up: ACIM-style forgiveness does not mean forcing yourself to be āniceā to someone who annoys you. It also doesnāt mean putting on a fake spiritual smile and pretending nothing bothers you. And it definitely doesnāt mean acting like a saint while secretly fuming inside.
True forgiveness means realizing that what you thought happened⦠actually didnāt happen. Sounds crazy? Maybe. But think about how much of your anger or sadness is based on interpretations, assumptions, and stories your mind made up.
Why do we keep forgetting this?
Because weāre constantly distracted by everything.
By people cutting in line.
By the news screaming that the world is ending (while the sun keeps shining).
By our own thoughts, telling us we need to have everything perfectly in place before we can be happy.
We lose ourselves in the details, in the drama of life, while forgetting weāre actually on stageāand weāve lost track of the director.
So, how do we remember our function?
Every time you feel tempted to be angry, irritated, or blame someone for your miseryāpause. Take a deep breath, and say to yourself:
āWait a minute⦠my function is forgiveness. I donāt have to take this personally. This is just a dream. Let me not forget what Iām actually here to do.ā
Sounds simple, right? Well, until you get stuck in traffic or someone messes up your coffee order. But heyāpractice makes perfect.
And if you forget today? No worries. Thereās another lesson tomorrow.
Letās smile and move forward. Because in the end, our true function isnāt just forgivenessāitās also joy. And maybe a little humor along the way.
With love and light,
G.
