The Western world isnât exactly famous for stillness. Weâre trained to move, fix, plan, analyze, and then analyze the analysis. Nobody ever told us that stillness isnât lazyness, itâs wisdom taking a nap with its eyes open.
A Course in Miracles keeps whispering:
âLet me be still and listen to the Voice of God.â
Thatâs it. Thatâs the secret. When the mind becomes quiet, Love can speak again. The still mind is the open mind. And the open mind is the loving mind.
Silence makes the ego nervous. It prefers background noise, like a talk show that never ends. âHow am I doing? Whatâs next? Should I worry about something?â it asks. But when we pause, even for a moment, another Voice begins to rise beneath the static. It was never gone; we just kept changing the channel.
The Course doesnât ask us to make the world quiet; it invites us to find the quiet within the world. Even in the cityâs chaos, even when your phone sings opera on the table, thereâs a space inside that never moves. Thatâs the real YouâŚthe calm Awareness that watches everything come and go.
Of course, saying âthe world is an illusionâ sounds easy⌠until your knee hurts, your phone crashes, and your cat decides your keyboard is the perfect meditation cushion. Thatâs when the classroom opens. We donât deny the form, we just stop giving it power. The body is neutral. Itâs the mindâs peace that heals, not the pill⌠though yes, you can still take the pill.
Stillness isnât something we have to achieve; itâs something we remember. Peace was never gone, it was just sitting quietly, waiting for you to notice.
And once you do, you start to see a beautiful order behind everything. You realize that existence itself canât be threatened. You exist. You always have, and you always will. Death loses its drama, how can eternity end? It can only change costume.
The ego, of course, loves its time machine. One foot in yesterday, the other in tomorrow and then it wonders why it keeps tripping. The Holy Spirit, meanwhile, stands perfectly still and smiles: âWelcome back to the only moment there is.â
And then you begin to see the sweetest truth of all: The One is the All, and the All is the One. Everyone you meet is a version of yourself, wearing different shoes. Some squeak, some sparkle, some pinch a little, but all are you. When you see that, judgment starts to melt and kindness starts to bloom.
Life reflects what we project. Radiate fear, and the world looks scary. Radiate love, and love waves back, sometimes disguised as a perfect parking spot.
Everything changes except Truth. Thatâs the part that never moves. The rest is scenery, shifting under one unchanging light.
So when life feels too loud, donât fight the noise. Just stop calling it.. âyouâ. Take one conscious breath. Let the chatter drift by. Stillness is right there, smiling, saying, âI never left.â
Stillness speaks the language of GodâŚsilence, peace, and gentle joy. It doesnât try to convince you. It just waits until you remember:
You are Love itself, watching the dream unfold⌠quietly laughing at how real it all seemed.
With love and light,
G.
