This morning I read, on Facebook, a quote from Eckhart Tolle:

“Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could spare them from all suffering? No, it wouldn’t. They would not evolve as human beings and would remain shallow, identified with the external form of things. Suffering drives you deeper. The paradox is that suffering is caused by identification with form and erodes identification with form. A lot of it is caused by the ego, although eventually suffering destroys the ego, but not until you suffer consciously.”

~ Eckhart Tolle

I deeply admire Eckhart Tolle, he is always clear and truthful.

But I also think that yet when pain feels very real, when the body aches or the heart is breaking, such words unfortunately don’t reach us, they’re too far away, too high above the heart.

The Course teaches that when the mind forgets its Source, the body

speak for it. But sickness is never a punishment. It is only a form of forgetfulness, a moment when the mind believes it is separate, vulnerable,

or alone.

So when illness shows up, it is not proof of guilt, but an invitation to remember wholeness….to remember Love.

People often ask, “Why do even small children get sick?

A child doesn’t think about separation or whatever! How could they, they are too young!”

My teacher would say, if she was still here : “A child is a great spirit in a small body, an adult is a great spirit in a large one. There is no difference. The mind decides everything.”

The same mind expresses through every form, and when the mind dreams of separation, the form reflects that dream, no matter its age.

So whether it appears in a small body or a grown one, the cause is the same, a mistaken belief in separation.

But the cure is the same too : remembrance of Love….of Wholeness.

When a child is sick, we don’t start explaining….we are with them.

We sit beside them, we hold them, we hum a soft tune, we are present!

And that is exactly what every adult needs too, not an answer, but presence.

Our presence.

…..

What does our presence do, what does it say ?

Our presence is telling : I know it hurts. I see it.

And I wish I could take it away right now.

But you know what? You are safe, even when it hurts. Truly safe.

Pain is not here to punish you.

It’s like a little cloud passing through your sky…it feels dark for a while, but behind it, the sun is still shining. Always.

You are that sun.

You are not the pain, not the tears, not the body that feels sore.

You are the light that feels all these things and that light can never be hurt.

Can you feel the love that’s still here, even inside the pain?

That’s what you really are.

The pain will pass, but you will stay…bright and beautiful.

Sometimes that’s all that’s needed, not more words, but a joining of hearts.

Not fixing, but remembering.

And in that remembering, pain begins to dissolve, not always in the body, but in the mind that remembers the truth:

“I am not the pain. I am the Light that sees it.”

And maybe that’s what healing truly is, not the end of the story, but the quiet return to peace.

After all, Love doesn’t need a prescription, it only needs our attention.

With love and light,

G.
