I will not be afraid of Love today (L.282)

It sounds almost absurd, doesn’t it?

To be afraid of Love.

As if a flower were afraid of the sun.

Yet ACIM , in this lesson, points us straight to the place we least want to look: our fear of what we most deeply long for.

We say we want love.

We search for it in relationships, in recognition, in nature, in music.

But the moment real Love…with a capital L…comes close, we draw back. Why?

Because the Love of God leaves nothing of the little “me” that wants to experience, compare, choose, win or lose. The Love of God has no drama, no story, no beginning and no end. It simply is.

And that is exactly what terrifies the ego.

The ego lives on contrast….on yes and no, light and dark, success and failure. Without opposites, it loses its identity. So it came up with a brilliant trick: experience.

“Let me experience love,” the ego says.

But to experience something, you must be separate from it.

And that is how the dream of separation began.

So we are not really afraid of Love itself, but of the disappearance of the little self that thinks it knows who it is.

For what remains when that dissolves?

Everything.

And nothing of what we thought we were.

In truth, “not being afraid of Love” means we stop trying to paint reality with our personal brush. We don’t need to earn, understand, or even receive Love.

We are it.

That’s the simple…and overwhelming…realization.

Still, we can smile at our fear. Like a child crying, “No, I don’t want a bath!” , until it’s sitting in the warm water, not wanting to get out. That’s us.

At first, we resist, terrified to dissolve into that infinite warmth, and then we realize we were never apart from it at all.

Today, the lesson invites us not to condemn our little “no,” but to look at it gently.

When you notice resistance, toward someone, a situation, or yourself, you can softly say:

“Love, I’m afraid right now, but I no longer want to be afraid of You.”

That is the doorway to Truth.

No struggle, no pious seriousness, just a smile….a quiet willingness

to let fall what was never true.

For Love cannot be lost, rejected, or even fully understood.

Love is what You are.

And today, we remember that…..without fear.

With love and light,

G.
