A Course in Miracles doesn’t use the word trauma…not even once.

And yet, it quietly addresses it in many lessons.

It speaks to the part of the mind that still trembles.

The part that flinches when someone walks in.

The part that says: “I’m broken, and I’m not sure I’ll ever be whole again.”

And if that’s you…reading this now…this article is written with tenderness. Not as advice. Not as a “10 steps to healing.” But as a gentle whisper:

“You are not alone. And there is another way.”

Let’s be honest, some things that happen in this world are unspeakably cruel. I’m not here to pretend otherwise.

I’m not here to tell a woman who was assaulted at age 12:

“Don’t worry, it never really happened.”

That’s not love. That’s spiritual bypass.

And I’m not here to tell a war veteran who wakes up screaming:

“You’re just dreaming.”

That’s not healing. That’s dismissal.

The Course doesn’t ignore trauma. It invites us..gently..to ask:

“Am I willing to see myself beyond what happened?”

Not today. Not tomorrow. But someday. With the Holy Spirit. In your own time.

Let’s clear this up right away: If you’ve had trauma, and it still hurts…

…you are not doing it wrong. You are not spiritually failing. You are not “less awakened.” You are a human being having a very raw experience in a very confusing dream.

But here’s what says workbook lesson 94 : “I am as God created me. I am His Son eternally” Lesson 93: Light and joy and peace abide in me.”

So, you are not as the trauma shaped you. Not as the world labeled you.

Not as the ego distorted you. You are the Son of God.

What is the role of the Holy Spirit?

The Holy Spirit doesn’t rush. He doesn’t diagnose. He never says: “Why aren’t you healed yet?”

He waits….He whispers….He walks into that dark, dusty basement of your heart and says:

“It’s okay. You don’t have to show Me anything.

Just let Me sit with you a while.”

This is not therapy. This is true healing. Not fixing the story.

But gently remembering:

“This story is not who I am.”

The ego is like an airline that never loses your baggage.

It keeps delivering it to every destination, shouting:

“Look what happened to you! This is why you are the way you are!”

But the Holy Spirit just smiles, hands you the remote, and says:

“You can eject that tape now. Let’s sit together and watch it dissolve.”

No pressure. No shame.

So Invite Him in…ask Him to stay with you.

I personally haven’t experienced extreme trauma. No war. No abuse. No violations of the body or soul. And before I started writing, I wondered:

“Am I allowed to speak about healing if I haven’t felt that depth of pain?”

But then I realized: I don’t need to have walked through fire

to offer someone a cup of water.

Sometimes love is not in the knowing. It’s in the listening. The not turning away. The staying close.

This article is not a solution. It’s only meant to be a hand. An open door.

A tiny lantern saying: “There is more to you than your trauma.

And you are not forgotten.”

For sure not by God/Love….and not by those of us who are still learning to see you truly.

ACIM teaches us….we are not our pain. We are the ones who witnesses it.

And the witness is always free.

With love and light,

G.
